exposure January 31, 2007

Filed under: Events, around town — kim @ 1:26 am

this friday, february 2 is the next exposure. this one is extra special because my good friend marc rettig is the photographer whose work is being showcased this month. marc is 1/4 of our little group that shoots abandoned spaces together around the city. he’s a great photographer and a heckofa guy to boot! you can view his interview here.
if you’d like to come out to see some great photos, support my friend marc, and meet other local photographers, exposure will be at club havana on ellsworth avenue in shadyside. official times are from 7-1, but things usually start picking up around 9. there’s no cover, and there will be a dj spinning all night. be sure to introduce yourself if you stop by!

russ and sue January 21, 2007

Filed under: engagement sessions — kim @ 12:32 am

i shot russ and sue’s engagement session today. russ owns a railroad bridge just outside of pittsburgh, so we got the go ahead to shoot some pictures on that, as well as a few other places around town. they are such a fun couple- very affectionate and sue was just glowing the whole time we were shooting. she swears she’s not photogenic, but i think these pictures prove otherwise (and check out how fun russ’s hat was). here are a few of my faves from the day:

i’ve been blogtagged. January 15, 2007

Filed under: just me — kim @ 12:43 pm

Spoon from should i drink that blogtagged me! it’s now my responsibility to write 5 things you don’t know about me. They made a great little video that showed their 5 things, but I don’t have that capability so I got the ok to just do it in text. so… here goes.

1. I got my first tattoo when I was 12. (kids…don’t do it!)
2. I’m allergic to peanuts. This came about when I was a vegan and living in Montana. I ate so many peanut and soy products as my source of protein, I developed an allergy to them. Let that be a lesson to you: you’re body will eventually reject anything you love too much. Stinks for me cause I looooove peanut butter.
3. I’m married. I met my husband at work. He was my manager. We dated for 6 months before we got engaged, and were engaged for 3 months before tying the knot. Possibly the best decision I ever made. (For the record, the second best decision was to take pictures for a living.) Our three year anniversary is in March.
4. I have my scuba license.
5. My first car when I was 16 was a 1975 Firebird. It was older than me, purple with pink flames and black vinyl seats, and sported an 8-track player. I drove it for a few years, during which time it spontaneously caught on fire twice (once while I was driving, once while it was parked at a gas station), and the brakes went out while I was going down a large hill. It was right around then that I decided it was time for a new car.

So that’s my five! Some of you may have known some of those, but I don’t think any of you knew all of them. Tell me five things about you!

Cataclysmic January 10, 2007

Filed under: Events, around town — kim @ 11:04 pm

I’m going to have some work on display this Saturday, at an art event in Lawrenceville. Swing by if you’re not busy. Here’s the info from the press release:

Art Event: Cataclysmic: An Art Revival in Lawrenceville

Artists have already begun the process of reviving Lawrenceville. Now comes Cataclysmic: An Art Revival, an event to revive the artist in each of us, while also building a sense of connectedness within our community. On Saturday, January 13, the creativity of more than 30 local artists will be on display and for sale from 6 p.m. to midnight at the Stephen Foster Community Center, located at 286 Main Street in Lawrenceville. In addition, there will be multi-media presentations, poetry readings, live music, and food throughout the evening. And if the creative drive within is so inspired, there will be opportunities for anyone and everyone to join the fun by creating some art on the spot. Cataclysmic is an event for all ages and is completely free of charge. “Our desire is to support and get to know the local artists community while at the same time, creating a midwinter event that is fun for the entire Lawrenceville community,” says event co-organizer Tom Cox. Cataclysmic: An Art Revival is being sponsored by Catalyst Faith Community, a Lawrenceville “alternative church-plant” out of the Hot Metal Bridge Faith Community on the South Side. Organizers assure all that there will be no religious mumbo-jumbo, just art, food, music, and fun!

About Catalyst Faith Community: Catalyst is a fledgling “alternative church-plant” in Lawrenceville, out of the Hot Metal Bridge Faith Community, currently located on Pittsburgh’s South Side. Our vision is to welcome anyone to seek God with us through the building of relationships, serving our community, and supporting social and economic justice for all. I met the coolest person tonight. Her name is Michele, and she just booked me for her October 27 wedding. Not only is she gorgeous, she’s so laid back and ultra cool, that I cannot wait to shoot their wedding!! This reinforces my suspicion that I may very well have the best job on earth…
