Filed under: Events, around town — kim @ 2:53 pm

I’ll be at an art and music event at the Rex theatre on the Southside this Sunday, March 4 called liquid sundays. They are flying an author in from the UK (Bob Hartman) and having 2 local bands perform (”In the Wake of Giants” and “Soulharmonic”). There will be several local artists with work on display (including yours truly). Doors open at 6:30, ages 21 and over, and there’s no cover charge.

russ and sue’s wedding February 26, 2007

Filed under: wedding resources, weddings — kim @ 11:46 am

the weather ended up being beautiful on saturday for russ and sue’s wedding. They are so much in love, sue was just radiant. I swear she’s smiling in every single picture i got of her. Everyone I met was so warm and friendly. I don’t think I stopped smiling all day either! They are such a terrific couple; I’m so excited for them as they begin their new life together. they got married at a church just north of pittsburgh, and reserved the main dining room of the grand concourse in station square for the evening for their reception. if you haven’t been, it’s quite a sight. the architecture and detail of the place is just gorgeous. There are huge marble columns and stained glass and rich mahagany woodwork. also, if you remember from their engagement session, russ is a huge train lover, so this was the perfect location for them (it’s an old train station)! Cadillac Jazz provided the entertainment for the night. This was my first time working a wedding with cadillac jazz, and I’ve got to tell you, I was sooo impressed. The music was wonderful; they provided the perfect atmosphere for the evening. I recommend them without hesitation if you are looking for a jazz band for your ceremony or reception. Vanilla Pastry Studio from the West End did their cake; it was so moist and rich, I was in heaven! Hats off to Simone for pulling everything together; it was quite a grand affair.
Here are a few of my shots, the rest will be available online in two weeks:

day in February 25, 2007

Filed under: just me — kim @ 11:30 am

the weather outside is a little yucky today (calling for ice storms in pittsburgh), so i’m thankful i can stay in. i shot the peterson wedding yesterday, so today i’ll be curled up on the couch with my dogs editing photos all day. unfortunately, my husband has to work today, or i would be curled up on the couch with him. :)

New Canon EOS-1D Mark III announced February 22, 2007

Filed under: photography resources — kim @ 6:41 pm

Click here for the press release. I’m pretty excited about this. I’m a Canon shooter and LOOOOOVE shooting in natural light. The advances they are making in camera bodies, combined with fast lenses (like my 70-200mm 2.8 IS), may make using a flash a thing of the past. I had my eye on the 5D but wanted to wait until new models were announced for the spring, and now I’m not sure which one to get. Here are the highlights:

  • ISO 3200 with 6400 option
  • Improved AF with 19 cross type sensors
  • AF low light sensitivity down to -1 EV
  • Burst rate up to 110 JPGs or 30 RAW images
  • new 3″ screen
  • reliable up to 300,000 shutter cycles
  • new DIGIC III Image processors working to provide 50% less shadow noise and suberb image quality
  • new Highlight tone priority option adds control of highlights

I can’t wait to see this thing in action!

Ashley February 21, 2007

Filed under: around town — kim @ 2:49 am

I shot a portrait session with Ashley on Sunday. It was wicked cold, but she was willing to do whatever it took to get some great shots (including ice skating and hanging out in the snow- in her dress!) I think it paid off- I especially love the ones of her in the snow. The first ones indoors were shot at the morning glory inn in the southside. Ashley’s bouquet is by Amaryllis in Cranberry and her makeup is by Dee Dee Malloy. We went with a frosty ’snow princess’ look to complement the weather and the locations. I love the way her makeup completes the look and sets the scene for the shots. She looks so hot!

newest weddings February 9, 2007

Filed under: weddings — kim @ 3:53 pm

Brad and Apryl are getting married on September 21. Apryl was college roommates with Amanda, a girl I graduated high school with. Such a small world! Brad and Apryl are super fun- we share the same sense of humor, and they are so obviously in love. As an added bonus, Amanda is in the wedding party, so I get to catch up with her. I can’t wait to shoot this wedding!

Julie and Dave tie the knot on September 15. I haven’t met Dave yet (I’ll have to wait until their engagement session for that), but Julie is so sweet, and super cute. I feel so fortunate that I’ve gotten the most amazing couples this year. I’m accepting a few more dates for 2007, and starting to book for 2008. Drop me a line if you’d like me to shoot your wedding!

jimbo jackson February 6, 2007

Filed under: around town — kim @ 12:28 pm

i had the great pleasure of meeting jimbo jackson on saturday night as he was recording a live session at a Pittsburgh recording studio. everything about jimbo is big- his presence, his personality, and his music. he first started playing a year ago at local open mic nights- at which time he had only two songs in his repetoire! since then he’s been busy playing more venues, learning more songs, and writing his own music. check out his myspace page - he wrote all of the songs on there. jimbo has a style all his own- it’s kind of a folky, funky, bluesy mix. his song ‘incredible’ is my fave. he was such a joy to photograph; so expressive and his laugh takes over the whole room! i’m definitely looking forward to working with jimbo again. here are a few shots i got of him as he was playing:
