meet abie! November 2, 2007

Filed under: wedding resources, photography resources, just me — kim @ 4:41 pm

well, i’ve been promising to give you the exciting news about abie for a little while now. abie is my new associate photographer! she has been second shooting while me throughout the summer, and i’ve been so impressed by her style and abilities that i asked her to join the team - and she said yes!

a little background:

abie was moving to pittsburgh from california earlier in the year, and emailed me to ask about the photography market in pittsburgh. (prior to this, abie’s primary focus was portraiture.) we kept in touch via email until she moved here in the spring. the first time we met, we totally hit it off, and i asked if she wanted to second shoot some weddings with me. she agreed, and we’ve made an awesome team throughout the summer.

i’m so excited to have her on board! we’ve been working closely together since the spring, and she is everything i could hope for in an associate: light-hearted, easy-going, fun, full of energy, and immensely talented. if you’d like to send her an email to welcome her on board, you can reach her at abie (at) kreedphotography (dot) com.

if you check out my website, you’ll be able to view a gallery of her photos. keep an eye on the blog too, for engagement sessions and weddings that she is doing.

(this photo is from a few months ago- she now has shoulder-length hair)

so if i’m already booked for your date (or you just like abie better! ;) ), she is also available to photograph your wedding. abies wedding collections start out slightly below mine. if you are interested in booking her for your wedding, fill out the contact form on my website and we’ll be in touch!

nicole and gary November 1, 2007

i met nicole and gary on saturday night at michele and chris’ wedding. gary was one of the groomsmen, and nicole is his lovely wife. gary is a marine, and was deployed yesterday to go back to iraq. nicole is 4 1/2 months pregnant with their first child, so their baby will be two months old when gary comes home. i was really touched by their story, so i offered to do a photo session for them before he left for iraq (initially thinking he would be leaving in a few weeks and they lived locally). It turns out they live in north carolina, were leaving the morning after the wedding to go home, and gary was being deployed on wednesday of this week!

so we met early the next morning for a short photo session. i found out that gary and nicole never had wedding or engagement photos done, so this was their first photo session since they’ve been married (almost 1 1/2 years).

i emailed them their slideshow tuesday night, but wanted to post some photos on my blog also because i know they have friends and family that wanted to see them. without further ado:

i love how the sun broke through the trees and was just shining on gary in this shot.

and i just would feel right if i didn’t utilize the sunny morning to incorporate a little sun flare. :)

gary and nicole, i’m so glad i met you and we were able to do this portrait session for you guys! i hope these photos make your time apart a little easier. keep in touch- i’d love to see a photo when gary comes home and meets his son or daughter for the first time!

opportunities

Filed under: just me — kim @ 3:32 pm

for their photography class, the students of heartland christian school had to choose a photographer to do a report on, and one of the students chose me. mrs. porterfield (who is also a talented photographer, and the photo teacher at the school) invited me to speak to her class. so on tuesday i drove to ohio to speak to her class about photography and wedding photojournalism, how i got my start, and share with them some of my photos. i really had a great time.

i did some public speaking in college, but haven’t had many opportunities since then. it’s something i really enjoy doing, especially when i’m talking about something i’m passionate about.

as a sidenote, i used apple’s keynote for the first time to put the presentation together, and it is super user-friendly and easy to use. I like it way better than powerpoint. (thanks apple!)

anyway, here’s mrs. porterfield and her super cool photography class. thanks for having me guys!

michele and chris

Filed under: weddings — kim @ 1:18 pm

when i first met michele, we instantly hit it off. we’ve kept in touch through email in the months leading up to her wedding. she and chris got married this past saturday at the hyeholde (which is a very unique and beautiful venue- if you are planning a small to mid-sized wedding, definitely check it out). here are a few of the things that caught my eye throughout their day:

getting into a wedding gown can be quite the production.

some portraits before the ceremony. michele made sure we had plenty of time beforehand to get some bridal portraits- which was fabulous, because the grounds of the hyeholde are beautiful and gave us some great backdrops.

isn’t she gorgeous?

love, love, love this shot.

this may be my favorite image of the day

heh heh. dominic the ring bearer wasn’t sure he wanted to be in this group shot. he was in the process of running away when someone said ‘airplane’, which made him stop in his tracks. too cute.

the hyeholde also has this great swing, which is apparantly hard to manuever onto in a wedding gown.

first dance. i love that they are surrounded by their wedding party on the dance floor.

chris dancing with his grandmother. i love the look on her face here. both chris and michele had wonderful families. you could tell everyone was very close.

and another shout out to abie, who was my phenom second shooter. check out these shots that she got:

love this one of michele getting ready to walk up some steps during our bridal session time.
