Found out today I’m the newest photographer spotlighted on wedding party! check out my interview here.
i have a few weddings lined up for next year that are out of state, and i would love to photograph more destination weddings.
if you or someone you know are planning a destination wedding for next year and still need a photographer, drop me a line. i’d love to photograph your wedding in greece, mexico, the caribbean, hawaii, italy, paris, florida, california, or las vegas. (or anywhere else- i love variety and adventure, and my passport is current).
as a business owner, i’m always trying to be wise in where my advertising dollars are spent. with a few exceptions, i prefer to spend my money with organizations that are selective with their screening process. i’d rather be part of an elite organization that has high standards and screens their applicants, than one who accepts everyone who applies.
i first heard about photographik from beckers blog several months ago, and was delighted when i was accepted. however, i’ve been so busy with my fall weddings, that i didn’t have time to send in my info. i was finally able to last week, and jesse, the founder, just emailed me to let me know my listing is live. check it out here.
if you’re a photographer that’s looking for a site that promotes only the best wedding and portrait photographers, check out photographik. and if you’re looking for a wedding or portrait photographer across the united states, it’s a fabulous resource.
well, i’ve been promising to give you the exciting news about abie for a little while now. abie is my new associate photographer! she has been second shooting while me throughout the summer, and i’ve been so impressed by her style and abilities that i asked her to join the team - and she said yes!
a little background:
abie was moving to pittsburgh from california earlier in the year, and emailed me to ask about the photography market in pittsburgh. (prior to this, abie’s primary focus was portraiture.) we kept in touch via email until she moved here in the spring. the first time we met, we totally hit it off, and i asked if she wanted to second shoot some weddings with me. she agreed, and we’ve made an awesome team throughout the summer.
i’m so excited to have her on board! we’ve been working closely together since the spring, and she is everything i could hope for in an associate: light-hearted, easy-going, fun, full of energy, and immensely talented. if you’d like to send her an email to welcome her on board, you can reach her at abie (at) kreedphotography (dot) com.
if you check out my website, you’ll be able to view a gallery of her photos. keep an eye on the blog too, for engagement sessions and weddings that she is doing.
(this photo is from a few months ago- she now has shoulder-length hair)

so if i’m already booked for your date (or you just like abie better!
), she is also available to photograph your wedding. abies wedding collections start out slightly below mine. if you are interested in booking her for your wedding, fill out the contact form on my website and we’ll be in touch!
the latest issue of grace ormonde’s wedding style magazine came out last week. i’m super excited to be listed among her platinum list vendors, so when you pick up your copy keep an eye out for my name. hoo ray!
also, if you are still searching for your gown, these are a few of the designers throughout this issue that caught my eye: monique lhuillier, carolina herrera, melissa sweet, and some of my faves are from st. pucchi.
i was tickled to be asked to be one of the featured photographers on the website don’t box us in. it came out yesterday but i had a crazy day and wasn’t able to post about it.
i love the idea behind this site (a sister site of trash the dress) and am honored and delighted to be featured among the other uber-talented photographers from around the world on there. here is a little blurb about don’t box us in that i pulled from their description:
“The staff of Trash the Dress has decided to create a website that features today’s best Artistic and Creative Photographers. We have a great thing going with Trash the Dress, but we thought it we be great to show off the other amazing shots, besides the dress trashing, that are being created by photographers who have been given creative control.
We aren’t saying that your photographer shouldn’t be capturing the traditional formals or group shots….we’re just saying that when it comes to your wedding portfolio, if you are looking for amazing creative shots that will really set your pictures apart from everyone else, look for a creative photographer. Creatives don’t like to be boxed in with titles such as Portrait Artist, Photojournalist, or even Fashion Photographer. A good creative photographer uses a mixture of styles to create the ultimate portfolio for his or her clients.”
Head on over and check it out. There’s some super awesome photography that’s showcased!
many brides are bucking tradition in favor of seeing their groom before the ceremony. often called ‘first look’ or ‘first sight’, there are several reasons in favor of this, the two most popular are: you get to see each other for the first time in a more personal, intimate setting (you can hug, kiss, and cry without all of your guests watching), and you can take care of all of your group photographs before the ceremony, leaving you free to enjoy your family and friends at the reception. for an entire article on the subject, click here.
Check out this article in today’s New York Times about trash the dress sessions after your wedding. I love, love, love these sessions. I think it’s so cool to get some gorgeous photos of a bride in her gown in unexpected locations. Drop me a line if you are interested in doing one of these: and if you’re feeling a little uncomfortable completely trashing the dress, don’t worry. We can tailor the session to make it as mild or wild as you would like, but don’t do it if you’re afraid of a little dirt on your dress!
Check out the ‘bridal’ gallery of my website and www.trashthedress.com for some examples.
oh my gosh- where to begin? i spent last weekend in lexington kentucky photographing a wedding with angela anderson. it’s always a treat to work with someone whose work i really admire, and angela is definitely one of those women. (seriously, check out her work. she’s ridiculously talented. plus, she referred to me as ‘effervescent’, a few hours after we met, so i liked her immediately
). we covered a three day indian wedding, and it was absolutely amazing. most event designers will tell you that a well-thought out event utilizes all five senses, and this one certainly did. the colors and textures and fabrics used were so rich, (and that was just using one of the senses!), i almost felt over stimulated at times- there was so much to take in! i’m going to blog about this in segments, otherwise this would be one super long post with a gazillion pictures at the end. so i’ll start with the mendhi thursday night. The mehndi party is a festive occasion celebrated by the bride’s family. The bride and close female members of her family have henna painted on their hands and feet while the rest of the family celebrate with songs. Mehndi signifies the strength of love in a marriage so brides try to leave it on as long as possible! Priya’s mehndi party was held in the backyard of her family’s home.:
here her mother helps her with her jewelry, and her twin sister does her makeup

this is priya’s dog simba. i’ve never seen a more loyal dog. he knew where priya was at all times! i think he looks a little concerned in this pic because so many people were hovering around priya. (his bandanna is pink and blue- the wedding colors).

inside the tent that was setup in the backyard

a few portraits- isn’t she gorgeous? (i’ve gotta give angela credit here- she was in front of priya giving her some direction for poses and i snuck off to the side to get these shots)

jeremy has the most amazing blue eyes

some details

this was right after priya’s adopted sister, on the right, performed a dance for her. the women in priya’s family were all wearing green.

jeremy’s mom enjoying the festivities

that’s all for now- we returned the following morning to document the puja. i’ll post those pictures next.
There has been a lot of talk about the new trend of environmentally friendly or ‘eco-chic’ weddings. Check out this article in today’s Post Gazette about Simone Hudson from 5 senses events right here in the ‘burgh.
Not only will she help you plan a posh wedding or event, she’ll help you do it in a way that is earth-friendly. It doesn’t get any better than that!
sums up the blog post of this bride, who is feeling guilty about wanting a decadent affair in which she marries the man of her dreams.
it’s true that getting married isn’t about the dress, it’s about the commitment. the relationship. the journey. but that being said, it is a huge leap of faith, and it’s a reason to celebrate. so do it however feels right to you- whether it’s a simple seaside ceremony with just the two of you, or a luxe affair surrounded by 400 of your closest friends and family.
if you’ve ever wondered what a million dollar wedding might look like, check out this one that colin cowie did for a lucky Oprah couple. talk about opulance!
